The Virtues Project™ has been providing personal and professional development programs, trainings, and materials on these Five Strategies™ of character-strength development for decades. It has been helping people and organizations worldwide to create a culture of character in homes, schools, and work environments.

The Introduction to The Virtues Project™ includes 12 hours of training. Through these strategies you will learn to see and communicate the strengths in yourself and others, set clear boundaries, nurture growth, and resolve conflicts.

Upon completion of the Introduction to the Virtues Project™, participants are eligible to take the Facilitating Growth Workshop. In this 15-hour training, participants review how they can present the Five Strategies™ to others while modeling the strategies and being true to themselves.

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be certified facilitators of The Virtues Project International™ which allows them to facilitate the Intro to the Virtues workshops.

Organizational Programs

We have worked with new managers, public school teachers, victim services case workers, college professors, hospital administrators and many more.

Great organizations attract and retain the best talent by having their employees identify their own strengths and understand how important those strengths are to success. This workshop leads individuals and groups through an exploration of personal and professional strengths and how those strengths complement their coworkers’ in aligning with the organization’s mission and values.

The way we use language has great influence to empower or discourage. Self-esteem is built when shaming or blaming language is replaced by concentrating on people’s strengths and our innate qualities of character. Leaders influence by example by using clear language to appreciate those around them, ask for what they need in a positive way, and clearly articulating what improvement are necessary when someone is not grounded in their strengths.

Using language to appreciate others is a great way to start a positive effect on your environment. It’s also important to honor individuals and groups by using simple practices that illumine our sense of value. A moment of silence each morning can bring a sense of peace that permeates throughout the day. Reflecting on how we bring our strengths to our day reminds us what matters to ourselves and our collective endeavors. Participation in the arts honors meaning and creativity. Celebrations make special events meaningful.

Whether you are focused on technology or human interaction, it’s important to nurture a culture of viewing life as an opportunity for learning, recognizing our mistakes, our tests and challenges as opportunities to hone our strengths. It’s an approach to bring out the best in ourselves and each other by asking, “What can I learn from this situation?”, “What do I need to do differently next time?”, and “What’s the next best step?”

Setting clear boundaries is essential for individuals to maintain a sense of purpose and inner peace. It is also one of the most important things any group can do to stay focused on a mission and not get distracted by interpersonal conflict. Elements of setting clear boundaries include:

  • Establishing clear ground rules based on individuals’ needs to build an atmosphere of order and unity. Individuals learning to recognize their own boundaries and being able to establish them with assertiveness, compassion and tact.
  • Practicing restorative justice to identify what bottom-line behaviors will not be tolerated and resolve conflict by determining how amends can be made.

Companioning is an art and skill which supports healing, encourages moral choice, and allows the safe expression of feelings. It helps in counseling, conflict resolution, and disciplinary situations. Companioning helps us to get to the heart of the matter when individuals are in grief or crisis. It involves true presence and listening, asking clarifying questions that allow individuals to empty their cup, and then to solve their own problems with the help of their virtues.
